| How Habitat Works With Homeowners |
![]() We build simple, decent houses alongside those in need. Habitat is not a give-away program. Each homeowner family invests hundreds of hours of their own labor - sweat equity - to the building of their house and the houses of others. Completing a total of 350 hours of sweat equity is one of the primary responsibilities of the homeowner candidate. Sweat equity hours can be fufilled entirely by the homeowner, though candidates are encouraged to recruit friends, co-workers and family members to help fill the sweat equity quota. In order to meet sweat equity requirements, homeowner candidates will be provided with the oppoortunities to work as a volunteer with other local service agencies that have been approved by the Habitat for Humanity Board of Directors. |
